What we did.

The first step in our process was to separate dead stock from active stock physically. This step helped create a more organized workplace and create more much needed space. Next, we clearly labeled each item showing stock number, title and minimum quantity required in stock. By displaying the minimum quantity, we hoped to create a more efficient means of stocking books according to anticipated demand. And last, we organized stock numerically to construct a more user-friendly system and encourages use.

Mid-term goals and long-term goals were also considered in the implementation of our process improvement project. Mid-term goals consisted of developing a minimum quantity required in stock after analysis of seasonal demand, and explainable irregular demand. By constructing minimum requirements after seasonal and explainable irregular demand, we hoped to create a level of inventory that was optimal and had minimum carrying costs. Long-term goals included increased warehouse space on newly acquired lots to create a more functional storage space. By creating this storage facility, the Athens Printing Company could also expand current production with increased space for large printing machines.
