Executive Summary Sanford Consulting
The goal of the United States Post Office is "to deliver every piece of mail every day in a timely, affordable, consistent, and accurate manner." Route 5 serves customers in the Good Hope and Monroe areas. However, there i s a minimal number of boxes served in Monroe; the majority of the route is in Good Hope. Under the evaluated route schedule, the mail carrier first reports to Monroe to case mail and then to Good Hope. Due to a 6:30 a.m. mail run, the carrier was often de layed in Monroe because the mail had not been sorted by route. Recognizing that this delay was inconsistent with the USPSs goal of delivering mail in a timely manner, the team from Sandford Consulting concluded that to reduce idle time in Monroe, the car rier should first report to the Good Hope office.
