The new system allows employees to pull shoes from the stockroom for customers and restock them in a fraction of the time. It is not only expedient in pulling/restocking; it is efficient in keeping the inventory organized. It also can be taught to any employee in minutes.
We accomplished the above through a simple color-coded system. As our test sample, we used Nike's Air Pure Uptempo. This was the good selection for two reasons. It was a new model and it had four different color styles.
On the bottom of each color on display, we placed a color-coded dot. The same dot was placed on all shoeboxes, which contained the same color shoe. The employee needed only look at the colored dot and find the section of shoes in the stockroom with same color. Once in this section, the employee could quickly locate the correct shoe size.
