Hodgson's, a nearby drug store, located in the Five Points area was the focal point of The Busdriver's Process Improvement Project. Hodgson's is well known for satisfying many customers in various areas throughout the store; however, one ever-popular aspect of the store is the ice cream stand. Though this part of the business is profitable for Hodgson's, it does have a few problems which it encounters. When The Busdriver's met with the employees who worked at the ice cream section of Hodgson's about some of the problems, they told us the primary problem was the time which people had to wait for their ice cream; thus, The Busdriver's began to collect pre-data by asking various questions to customers through the use of a survey about relevant topics related to the ice cream stand. From the survey and further analysis of watching the processes which the Hodgson's employee's used to serve the ice cream, the Busdriver's were able to suggest possible solutions to the pharmacy. According to The Busdriver's, the solutions to Hodgson's problem were to put a how to order sign closer to the door, rearrange the ice cream flavor bins two different ways, and enable the use of hot water in the ice cream scooper holder. After the implementation of our ideas, we continued to collect post data and wrapped the Process Improvement Project by making a custom designed web page. |
